Blast-Mitigating
Laminates
Viracon provides a variety of laminated glass
options that help mitigate the effects of air-blast
attacks.
Important note: Laminated glass is considered
a component of the overall glazing system, therefore;
the blast mitigating performance is also dependent
upon being installed into an adequately designed
frame which is then anchored appropriately to
the wall structure. Viracon recommends the involvement
of a blast consultant to verify the performance
of the glass and framing system combination.

Products that have been used for low to
medium performance could include laminates similar
to:
PVB Laminated Glass consisting of .030",
.060" or .090" interlayers laminated between
two panes of glass.
Insulating laminated products, with the
laminate to the interior (victim) side could
also be incorporated for enhanced thermal performance.
Products that have been used for medium
to high performance could include laminates similar
to:
Enhanced interlayers (StormGuard, SentryGlas
Plus, Vanceva Storm) laminated between two plies of glass.
Multi-ply laminates which incorporate
multiple plies of glass with an interlayer material
in between. (contact a Viracon representative
for product limitations)
Glass-clad polycarbonates consisting
of a polycarbonate core and glass exterior bonded
together with polyurethane.
Double laminated insulating units consisting
