Project Details

The inventive architecture of Orlando Regional Healthcare's newest hospital, the 11-story Winnie Palmer Hospital for Women & Babies, required more than just the right product at the right time. Harmon, Inc, which has been helping the hospital with exterior glass renovations for years and was involved early in the design-build process for the new facility, was challenged to provide a hurricane system for a circular building enclosed with a mix of glass and aluminum panels. Viracon worked with Harmon during the hurricane test process to select the optimum laminated, energy-efficient glass to meet requirements. To ensure the integrity of the building while achieving the desired architectural look, Harmon installed a full hurricane system and then covered part of the glass with aluminum panels, which if damaged in a storm would not compromise the building's exterior.
