Sears Tower was renamed Willis Tower on Thursday 7/16/09. The Sears Tower in Chicago was the world's tallest building when it was built in 1973. Today it is the tallest building in North America and one of the top 10 tallest in the world. Willis Tower, formerly Sears Tower, had been the 3rd tallest building in the world behind Taipei 101 in Taiwan and the Petronas Towers in Kuala Lampur, Malaysia.
